Gisteren Alkmaar City Run beleefd in De Dieu met een paar bijzondere mensen en in Koffiehuis met de usual suspects. Ook leuk. Vanochtend brak maar toch uurtje op de mountain bike weg en de zon scheen uitbundig. Rolgordijnen opgehangen en mint-groen en oud-roze combineren prima. Àlles hangt nog mooi recht ook.
Vanavond naar de kleine zaal van Paradiso voor Nine Sparks Riots. Gisteravond in een impuls en op de gok gekocht op het terras van het Koffiehuis voor het geval De Dieu zou tegenvallen. Maar dat deed het niet! Paar leuke mensen ontmoet en H. paar keer kort gesproken. Ze was erg druk, helemaal in d’r element en… nou ja. Adembenemend!
Band was onverwacht goed en volle zaal. Naar eigen zeggen: “Euforische jazz-funk”. Drummer en bas, toetsenist maar vooral: drie spetterende blazers. Trompet, sax en trombone! Super-funky en ook jazzy.
Nine Sparks Riots is the musical vessel of Swedish trombonist, vocalist, composer & arranger Kristian Persson, known for his unique blend of virtuosically horn-driven, funky and harmonically rich jazz, funk and soul.
As a leader he has released 3 albums: ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ (2010) and ‘The Enchanter’ (2012) with the funky sextet Neighbourhood and the self-titled ‘Kristian Persson Elements’ in 2014. In 2015 he formed Apocalyptic Brass Collective, with some of the finest horn players in Europe, collaborating with Swedish artists such as Linnea Henriksson, Cleo, Daniela Rathana and Janice. As a freelancing trombone player, Kristian has worked with artists such as Allen Stone, Miike Snow, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Mark Lettieri, Hubert Laws, Genevieve Artadi, Pedro Martins & Ambrose Akinmusire. He’s also a member of the Latin Grammy nominated salsa band Calle Real & has toured in Europe, Asia, Latin America, USA, Africa and The Middle East.
